IHM’s Service Saturdays group supports local outreach organizations while offering opportunities for you to positively impact our community. One Saturday a month a service project is arranged at a charity in need. We plan as often as possible to arrange tasks suitable for all ages, families, etc. This is a great chance to learn about local charities, expose your family to service work in a safe environment, and to use your talents to help improve our city. This is also an excellent way for students to fulfill their middle school or high school service hour requirements.

May Service Saturday – May 18th

On Saturday, May 18th from 9:00 – 12:00 pm IHM’s Service Saturdays will be volunteering at the St. Vincent de Paul Distribution Center. This is the hub that receives all the material donations made to SVDP. Our group will be helping sort/organize clothing, shoes, linens, and household donations. We hope you will consider joining us!

June Service Saturday – June 8th

On Saturday, June 8th from 9:00 to 11:30 our Service Saturdays group will be volunteering at the Veggie Stand & Community Garden at Fletcher Place Community Center. After the closing of the last neighborhood market, the community around Fletcher Place has become a virtual food dessert, starving local residents of fresh food. The Community Garden brings affordable, accessible, healthy food options and a little outdoor living to the community. Come help us serve this community by harvesting the garden and staffing the Veggie Stand.

What we learned at our January Service Saturday Outreach project:

We learned a great deal about their initiatives and spent a couple of hours helping sort goods, providing general cleaning, and packing “birthday bags” for their clients.  We had a great turnout and thankyou to all that were there today!

Outreach is charitable organization that assists young adults (14-25) that are homeless.  They provide a safe and welcoming environment for their clients and help them get on their feet.  Last year they helped 767 people get ID’s, medications, insurance, clothing, food, do laundry, etc.  They are typically in need of clothing, men’s underwear, young adult books, board games, and Tide pods.  A full list of needs is listed on their website.  Outreach also serves 2 meals a day for their clients.  If you have a group that would like to assist with Friday lunches, they typically have a need.
