Immaculate Heart of Mary 75th Anniversary
1946 – 2021
While 2020 and 2021 have been extremely challenging, we have nevertheless two very special occasions to look forward to this year: On December 8, our parish turns 75 years old, and on December 18, Father Bob celebrates his 50th ordination anniversary!
75 days to Celebrate IHM’s 75th Anniversary!
On December 8, 1946, our parish, Immaculate Heart of Mary of Indianapolis, was officially founded when Fr. Sahm celebrated the first Mass on the feast day of the Immaculate Conception.
To celebrate this monumental occasion in the spirit of IHM, we are filling the 75 days leading up to our 75th anniversary with daily activities of faith, community, and service, starting Saturday, September 25th. Calendar list of suggestions, opportunities, and links to the sign-ups (underlined) HERE and there are paper copies in the back of church.
We will be celebrating Immaculate Heart of Mary’s 75th Anniversary on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (Holy Day of Obligation) at the 6:00pm Mass. Please join Fr. Bob and past priests, Fr. David Lawler and Fr. Jeff Godecker, in honoring this special day.
Following Mass, there will be a reception with cookies, cocoa/cider, music, and a video in the Activity Center.
There will be a livestream of the Mass on the church’s new facebook page facebook.com/ihmindyparish
ALSO a beautiful commemorative ornament for the 75th Anniversary may be purchased for $20. They are available to buy at the Parish Office and online HERE. Stop by and get one soon! These will look great on the Christmas tree or hanging in a window and will be a wonderful keepsake!
Since our parish is dedicated to Mary, we are honoring her in a special way. A statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is going to travel to the families of our parish for 75 days before finding a permanent place in our day chapel on December 8.
Our Prayer:
Faithful and loving God,
We thank you for our parish, Immaculate Heart of Mary,
and all its members as we celebrate our 75th anniversary.
We thank you for our founding members who left us
a legacy of faith, community, and service.
We thank you for walking with us through the years
and for your providential care along the way.
Accompanied by the Immaculate Heart of Mary, may this celebration
bring a renewal of faith into our lives so that we may be a blessing to those around us.
Pour out your Spirit on our community so that our endurance in joy and hope
may lift up those who are weary, and that our works of faith and labors of love
lead others to Jesus, your Son, in whose name we pray. Amen.
Immaculate Heart of Mary – Pray for us!
