The IHM School Library is emblematic of a parish community with a goal of excellence in education and a passion for reading. The interim school library contains approximately 11,000 books. A bank of student computers allows students to access the library catalog and conduct class research. The library is open all day and students may utilize the library before and after school as well. Students are welcome to come to the library throughout the day.

Several years ago, IHM adopted a nationwide supplemental reading program, Accelerated Reader (AR) for grades 4-8. The program, developed by Renaissance Learning, has strong data to support its successes. Each student has an individualized reading plan and the student’s progress is monitored weekly. Accelerated Reader is also part of a student’s reading grade.

Grades K-2 participate in a statewide recreational reading program the Young Hoosier Book Award (YHBA).  Created in 1975, this book competition is sponsored by the Association of Indiana Media Educators (AIME).  A statewide AIME committee of librarians and media specialists annually nominate the list of YHBA  book nominees.  It is extremely prestigious for an author to receive this award.  Most states have comparable awards.
