The Accelerated Reader (A.R.) Program encourages children in grades 4 through 8 to read for the love of books. When a child finishes reading a book from the school library, classrooms, or home, he or she goes online at school to take a comprehension test, or "AR quiz." Points earned for successfully answering questions about the book are tallied at the end of each school quarter (in many classrooms, students set their own AR point goals and AR success is part of their reading or literature grade). Points are then used for "shopping" in our A. R. Store for items such as small toys, art supplies, gift certificates, passes (out-of-homework, snack-in-class, free-period-with-the-kindergarteners, and more), and opportunities to donate points toward charities. Please Annie Reist or Kathy O'Neil with any questions |

The Scholastic Book Fair, held every year in the library, is a great way to purchase great books while also benefitting IHM. Along with an excellent selection of books for children of all ages, a variety of educational products and software will be available. You may even purchase a special book from the Teacher Wish List, which will be donated to the classroom with your child's nameplate on the inside cover. Proceeds from the Book Fair benefit the school library as well as the classroom libraries. The Book Fair will be held March 6-10, 2010, following all weekend masses and also after school from 3:00-4:00. School children will have an opportunity to shop with their class during school hours. Every year, PTO publishes your MUST HAVE school directory that provides:
- Student / Parent Names with contact information
- Room Parents
- Directions to CYO locations
- Teacher Names and Birthdays
- School Calendar / Hot Lunch Schedule
The first directory is $7.00… each additional directory is $1.00. Many families purchase more than one. They are helpful at home, at the office or in your car. Ask the school “veterans” …by the first week, your children will confiscate them! |

NATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY: Oct. 6th. Please plan to go to school with your Walking School Bus.
Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a federal program created to help community leaders, schools and parents across the country improve safety and encourage more children to safely walk and bicycle to school. At the same time, SRTS works to reduce traffic congestion as well as improve health and the environment.
IHM and CFI have been working together over the past year to develop a Safe Routes to School Plan that will serve our students, parents, teachers, and administrators and help make our neighborhood safer for children who wish to walk and bike to school. The final plan was prepared in the summer of 2010 after detailed analyses and input from many students, parents, teachers, administrators and neighbors. We are now beginning to implement its recommendations.

Instead of giving money to the school directly, you are spending the usual amount on groceries, gasoline, restaurants and gift cards…except a portion of the money goes to IHM when you purchase Scrip Cards. This program requires a little extra work on your part, but no additional money! Download Scrip Form Here. Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed, download that here. Contact Info Here

DEADLINE TO ORDER SPORTSWEAR IS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD!
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. For new parents, this is the time of year where you can order Sportswear/Spiritwear for your child(ren) and family. IHM Sportswear t-shirts can be worn every Monday and it's a great way to show your IHM spirit! IHM Crewneck sweatshirts can be worn daily.
This is the first year of being able to order Sportswear on-line. By ordering on-line, there are a few more options available to you. Please visit: https://secure.distinctimages.net/shop/enter/ihm to shop on-line.
With that comes the question, will you still go to the classroom and show the kids samples? Our answer is quite simple, spend a few minutes at our on-line store with your child(ren) at your convenience! This way, you will order EXACTLY what they want and not what you think they want! What about sizing? We are hopeful you were able to stop by the Sportswear tables at Back To School night to look at the sizes available. However, if you weren't, the general rule of thumb is this for youth sizing:
YS (6-8)
YM (10-12)
YL (14-16)
YXL (18-20) - YXL is a little wider and the Adult Small is usually a little longer
Please note, the last day to place orders will be Friday, September 3rd, 2010. Deliveries will be made by the end of Setpember to school. Please remember ALL SALES ARE FINAL, NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES! If you miss this deadline, you will have another opportunity to buy Sportswear/Spiritwear around Thanksgiving and in time for Christmas.
