Feast of Saint Gregory the Great
Greetings, IHM Families,
IHM Kick-off Festival
IHM Kick-off Walk and Festival were great evangelical opportunities and celebrations of community. We send many thanks to you for baking cakes, contributing 2-liter soda bottles, participating in the walk, and enjoying the festival. Thanks also to the planners and organizers. Our 7th and 8th grade students who served as leaders for games and cleanup crew on both Saturday and Sunday were outstanding. The total number of hours served by IHM Junior High was 188.5! Praise God for the beautiful weather!
IHM Band is Back
Band will begin next week! The new IHM Band Director is Jack McElhannon. Mr. McElhannon comes highly recommended. He and his wife relocated from Texas to Fishers to be closer to his wife’s family.
The weekly band schedule will be as follows:
Tuesdays and Thursdays for Beginning Musicians—those students in Grades 5-8 who are playing a band instrument for the first time. Beginning Band will begin on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Go to the Music Room at 3:00pm to try out instruments to decide which one is the best fit. This process takes approximately 10 minutes per student. This first Tuesday may take until 5:00 pm??? Once the student has finished his or her selection, he/she may go home. Mr. McElhannon will give the students information about rental instruments.
Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00pm are the days and times for Advanced Musicians—those students who have played their instrument for a year or more. Advanced Band will begin on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at 3:00pm in the Music Room. This band will begin playing right away. Please bring band instrument and any method books and/or music used in band last year.
The cost for band this year is the same as last year: $30 per semester. Check made payable to IHM. Welcome, Mr. McElhannon!!
Jeans Day to Support Multiple Sclerosis Research (Jeans for Jean)
The following is an excerpt from an e-mail to the staff from our own Jean Hursh:
As some of you know, I have had MS for over 20 years. I am one of the lucky ones. My symptoms are just bad enough to remind me to thank God everyday for my good health. Many lives have been dramatically altered by this unpredictable disease.
Mr. O'Brien's wife, Bonnie, has had MS for almos 30 years. She had been unable to work since 1995 and today has great difficulty walking. this often debilitating disease affects each person differently.
We (my husband and I) have wanted to do an MS ride for a long time. And this year the MS chapter in Charlotte, NC is reinstituting their 150 mile bike ride to the beach!
This ride raises money for MS research. Our team is called the Trips for Kids team. To make a donation please go to the website below. Thank you.
We will have a “jeans day” on Friday, September 10 to support Mrs. Hursh in her efforts. Any student who wishes to wear jeans instead of a uniform on that day may do so by making a $1.00 donation to MS. Thank you in advance for your support of this most important research.
Arrival and Dismissal
Arrival and dismissal procedures seem to be going well—thank you for your extra patience. Let me know if you have witnessed any problems. Here are Safe Routes to School’s Guidelines for Good Pedestrian Behavior:
· Look both ways before crossing (left, right, left again)
· Walk, don’t run, across the street
· Cross only at safe corners, even if you need to walk farther
· Choose the route with fewest street to cross
· When possible, cross streets at the crosswalk and where there are traffic signs and signals
· Obey traffic signs and signals
· Face traffic when walking on roads without sidewalks
· Watch for turning cars
· Keep from walking between parked cars
· Refuse to ride with strangers (U.S. Department of Transportation)
Blessings on your Labor Day weekend,
Peggy

WE'VE GOT SPIRIT YES WE DO, WE'VE GOT SPIRIT HOW 'BOUT YOU?
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. For new parents, this is the time of year where you can order Sportswear/Spiritwear for your child(ren) and family. IHM Sportswear t-shirts can be worn every Monday and it's a great way to show your IHM spirit! IHM Crewneck sweatshirts can be worn daily.
This is the first year of being able to order Sportswear on-line. By ordering on-line, there are a few more options available to you. Please visit: https://secure.distinctimages.net/shop/enter/ihm to shop on-line.
With that comes the question, will you still go to the classroom and show the kids samples? Our answer is quite simple; spend a few minutes at our on-line store with your child(ren) at your convenience! This way, you will order EXACTLY what they want and not what you think they want! What about sizing? We are hopeful you were able to stop by the Sportswear tables at Back To School night to look at the sizes available. However, if you weren't, the general rule of thumb is this for youth sizing:
YS (6-8)
YM (10-12)
YL (14-16)
YXL (18-20) - YXL is a little wider and the Adult Small is usually a little longer
Please note, the last day to place orders will be Friday, September 3rd, 2010. Deliveries will be made by the end of Setpember and please remember ALL SALES ARE FINAL, NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES! If you miss this deadline, you will have another opportunity to buy Sportswear/Spiritwear around Thanksgiving and in time for Christmas.

Help IHM Church & School – Buy Scrip Cards
What is Scrip?
Scrip is a gift card purchase program featuring an extensive array of local and national retailers. It is a fundraiser that requires absolutely no selling, yet provides income for the church and school and it costs you nothing, but a little effort. You can use Scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, fuel, and other essentials. With every purchase, you help out a great cause and earn revenue for IHM!
Where Can I Shop Using Scrip Cards?
There are hundreds of different Scrip cards available for places you shop regularly including Marsh, Kroger, Shell, Macy’s and Walmart. The yellow Scrip order form (also on www.IHMindy.org) provides a list of available options.
How Do I Buy Scrip Cards?
Use the order form that comes in your child’s Friday folder or is available on the IHM website to order on Monday and your Scrip cards will be delivered to you by Friday. Or buy them after mass during coffee and donuts. Why not order Scrip cards every week or month for places you know you shop regularly? You could even send your college student off with Scrip cards to help fund the fundamentals.
Help out a great cause. Give to IHM church and school by becoming a regular Scrip shopper. We are also looking for a volunteer to help with Marketing. Please contact Alicyn Robb 253-0005 if interested.

Sally Foster Gift Wrap Fundraiser Underway!
We had a great kick off this week for our Sally Foster Gift Wrap fundraiser. We are so excited about the new changes to this year’s fundraiser. Remember, students will be selling $20 gift cards that customers can redeem at www.sallyfoster.com. All sales are shipped directly to the customer! Please refer to the sales kit cover letter for a full explanation of the changes and what is staying the same. We also included a “Frequently Asked Questions” page that we hope you will find helpful.
Attention 6th, 7th and 8th Graders! A portion of your total sales profit will go towards your 8th Grade Class Fund. Help ease the cost of your fun 8th Grade trip by selling lots of Sally Foster. Increase your sales dollars by combining siblings’ sales onto your Sally Foster order sheet. Everyone gets credit for selling but you get more profit!
For information regarding the student seller ID number, please read the “Easy as 1, 2, 3!” flyer that was included with the sales kit. IHM’s school code is 300020.
Extra gift cards can be picked up in the school office. Order forms and checks made out to IHM/PTO are due Monday, September 20. Thank you for your support! Please let us know if you have any questions.
Happy selling!
