About Our School

Fully accredited by the State of Indiana and the North Central Association, Immaculate Heart of Mary School offers an excellent academic curriculum. In 2005, IHM was honored with the U.S. Department of Education's "No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon" as one of eleven Indiana schools. In addition, our students regularly achieve top scores on the state standardized tests (I.S.T.E.P.+).

Located on the north side of Indianapolis, Indiana- Immaculate Heart of Mary School is in the heart of the Meridian Kessler neighborhood. Nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, our school is one of nine Catholic grade schools serving the North Deanery of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

Immaculate Heart of Mary School has an enrollment of over 400 parish and neighborhood children in grades kindergarten through eight. IHM offers full day kindergarten with the option for half day dismissal. There are two classrooms per grade level with a teacher/student ratio of 1 : 25.

Welcoming children of all faiths, our parish school is committed to a strong Catholic education. Following the criteria set forth by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist are included in the curriculum, along with daily religion classes and weekly masses planned by the students.

All of our students are challenged to meet their own academic potential, and to ensure this, there are many enrichment activities offered both before and after school, as well as two full time resource teachers on staff. Along with core classes of religion, mathematics, English, science, and social studies, Spanish is offered through all nine grades, as is computers, art, music, and physical education. Our school library is a favorite place for many of our students, with many books and resources available for their use. Immaculate Heart of Mary School also uses Catholic Charities for counseling services, which are offered once a week on Tuesday.

Our school has an active student council, as well as a “buddy” program that lets middle and junior high students mentor students in the younger grades. Extra-curricular activities include many sports teams through CYO athletics, Girl and Boy Scouts, Mass Servers, many charity events, band, and After-School Enrichment programs.

Junior high is an exciting time for students as they prepare for more social and academic responsibility. This includes block scheduling, service hour requirements, and social activities through the Youth Ministry.

Our school is an active, exciting place for all the students who pass through its doors!

Immaculate Heart of Mary School is committed to the spiritual, academic, social, and emotional health of each child. Our purpose is to provide an atmosphere of community where faculty and parents strive to fulfill these objectives.
